Contains great descriptions of Canadian communities as they then were eg. Toronto: "Its people are nearly all English and Scottish, and while the city has strongly marked English characteristics, it is distinctly western in the intensity of its activity and energy" (p. 59). Also includes advertising for Upper Lake Steamships, telegraph service, Dominion Express Company, etc.
